CAPS United goalkeeper, Tonderai Mateyaunga, made an incredible triple save which helped the Green Machine edge Yadah 1-0 at Rufaro on Saturday.

With the game still level, The Miracle Boys put together a beautiful piece of play in Makepekepe’s defensive third.

Midfielder Blessed Ndereki, one of the best players in the league this season, drilled a grounder after intercepting a desperate reverse pass by Junior Bunjira.

Ndereki’s effort hit Mateyaunga’s upright with the midfielder taking the rebound but Mateyaunga parried it back.

The ensuing scramble saw the ball fall to Vincent Sango, who again hit it hard, but Mateyaunga dived well to smoother it.

Incredibly, the rebound fell to another Yadah player, Jerry Chipangura, whose shot was again saved by the goalkeeper.

The Makepekepe fans celebrated as if their team had taken the lead.

It proved a decisive moment in the game as William Manondo struck, with only a minute of added time remaining, to all secure the maximum points for Lloyd Chitembwe’s men.

While Manondo took his goal tally to four, after struggling last season, all of the focus was on man-of-the-match Mateyaunga.

He was showered with cash by CAPS United fans.

“Tonde is a magnificent figure in the team and he is one of those guys who are always motivating the others,” said Chitembwe.

“He is one man who can make things happen and he has just showed it today.

“I am very happy for him and the team.”

Mateyaunga said:

“I owe it to my coach, teammates and these fans. It was really a difficult spell with Yadah always a threat. All credit goes to my coaches, my teammates and the fans.”
