MATOBO Rural District Council has adopted a $3,8 million annual budget for the year 2017, a 9,2 percent increase from this year’s $3.5 million as it seeks to improve service delivery as well as provide better infrastructure in the district.
Matobo RDC chief executive officer Mr Elvis Sibanda said the reason why there was an increase in next year’s budget compared to this year was because of the need to try and maximise revenue collection.
“The increase on income was contributed by the projected income from Campfire and the sale of stands. In a bid to maximise revenue collection strategy taking heed of the governing legislation and the various revenue collection strategies which will be employed, key among others is continued stakeholder engagement,” said Mr Sibanda.
He also said the budget was crafted following wide consultations covering all the wards in the district, the business community and the mining sector.
Mr Sibanda also said: “It is imperative to note that the budget hinges on goals and objectives of the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim-Asset), the 10-Point Plan anchored on the Intergraded Results Based Management Framework (IRBMF), at the same time being sensitive to gender issues, arts and culture, heritage promotion and preservation.”
He said council intended to embark on the construction of a classroom block at Mgadla Primary School in the resettlement area, construction of two clinics, construction of a block of vendor marts and installation of 15 street lights at Maphisa township and carrying out a 1,4km road earth works and surfacing in the township as well as road rehabilitation around the district.
Council budget is in compliance with the 30/70 rates prescribed by the Government on payment costs to recurrent expenditure.
