FORMER Premiership side, Sheasham, have underlined their intentions for a return to the top flight, by maintaining a perfect start to the season in the Zifa Central Region Soccer League.
They are one of the two sides, along with ambitious Kwekwe outfit Hardrock, to win their first three matches of the season.
The Gweru side, however, tops the log standings with nine points, the same as Hardrock, but they have an edge over the Kwekwe outfit due to their superior goal difference.
Sheasham coach, Prince Matore is keeping his feet on the ground and not reading too much into his side’s bright start to the season.
“This win is now water under the bridge,” said Matore after his side’s 2-1 win over FC Platinum U19 at Bata Stadium, on Sunday.
“At the moment, we are not focusing on the log table but taking each game as it comes. We are just focusing on improving the squad and making sure the boys understand how we want them to play.”
The former Chicken Inn and Kwekwe United gaffer, who won promotion with Kwekwe last season, added that this time around the competition in the league is stiff and there is little margin for error.
He pointed out that they are using the early stages of the season to lay a strong foundation for the rest of the campaign.
“This season, it looks like there are a lot of very strong teams, which is good for competition and uplifting the standards of football in the country.
“As a team, we have to remain focused until the end,” he said.
Second-placed Hardrock, made the most of their long trip to West Nicholson, emerging 2-0 victors.
The win ensures Luke Masomere’s charges stay abreast of the league leaders, in the fight for promotion to the Premier Soccer League.
New boys, Gwanda Pirates, dropped points for the first time this season, losing 2-0 to ZRP Gwanda in the mining town, on Saturday.
Gwanda Pirates occupy third spot on the standings with six points, while Blanket Mine, who drew 1-1 away to Dinson Mvuma, sit fourth.
