Zanu-PF Central Committee and Provincial Council member Cde Martin Mufiri Mavhangira, who died last Friday and was declared a provincial hero, was laid to rest at the Mashonaland Central Provincial Heroes’ Acre in Bindura on Monday.

Speaking during the burial, Zanu-PF provincial chairman, who is also the ICT, Postal and Courier Services Minister, Cde Kazembe Kazembe, said Cde Mavhangira was “a man of the people” who worked well with other members of the party.

He said Cde Mavhangira was well-known for representing the voice of the voiceless as he used to speak his mind on social, political and developmental matters without fear or favour.

“It is with sorrow and grief that we are gathered here to lay to rest one of our gallant sons of Zimbabwe, Cde Mavhangira, who was truly a man of the people who worked well with his mates,” he said.

“The late Cde Mavhangira passed on at a time when the nation is mourning our friends and relatives who perished in the devastating national disaster of Cyclone Idai.”

Cde Mavhangira was born on June 22, 1950 and attained his secondary education in 1968 at Rufaro Mission in Gutu, Masvingo Province, and became a political activist at an early age because he did not like the oppressive nature of white colonialists.

Family representative, Mr Ben Mubaiwa Sango, thanked the party for bestowing such an honour on Cde Mavhangira and said such a recognition was also for the whole family which showed that the party has so much trust in the family.

Cde Mavhangira is survived by his wife Tsitsi, five children and 18 grandchildren.
