ESIGODINI-based outfit Mavusani and his group The Chimurenga Vocalists are gearing up to perform at the Independence Gala taking place at Minda High School, Matobo District.
The gala will be part of the Independence Day celebrations being held under the theme “Zim@46: Unity and Development Towards Vision 2030”.
In an interview, Mavusani said they will use their music to highlight development projects across Matabeleland South, mostly performing songs from their fifth album, Development. The album features tracks such as Independence, Vision 2030, Amai NaBaba, Muthu NdiMuthu (Remix) and Our Land (Remix). The album has drawn positive feedback from both youths and older listeners.
“We’re not new to galas as we’ve performed in Manicaland, Masvingo and Matabeleland North provinces. It means a lot to be part of this event, taking into account that the 46th Independence celebrations are being hosted in our province. Imagine the expression on our fans,” said Mavusani.
“I’ll fulfil what my fans are obviously expecting, which is to sing about the progress happening in Matabeleland. A lot of developmental progress is happening in Matabeleland, particularly in Matabeleland South, ahead of the celebrations.”
Mavusani said his set will celebrate both Independence and the province’s transformation.
“It’s just that some people usually focus on the negative, but truth be told, the Second Republic izenenye Matabeleland — we have never seen development of such magnitude since 1980.
“So, I’m going to sing about that during the gala and the importance of Independence to us Zimbabweans.
“I urge the nation to be patriotic and stand with the successful leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa,” he said.
Mavusani has released four albums, Umuntu ngumuntu Ngabantu, Vanowina Chete, Dubula Dubula and Our Zimbabwe, and has built a strong regional following, with some fans dubbing him the “Chief Hwenje of Matabeleland”.
