HARARE Mayor Jacob Mafume said the designing of council schools was substandard and more needed to be done to redesign them.
He said there was a need for infrastructure development in the schools.
“I have had issues with my colleagues about the design of council schools, which all look the same.
“I have instructed our architects to design these schools better and differentiate one school from the other.
“They design them as if we are coming out of a war.
“There is a lack of imagination and the designs do not develop an affinity to the schools.
“They need to be designed with a beauty touch so that they create a better environment for learning.”
He said the naming of urban schools was also unimaginative as they were named according to the suburbs where they are located.
“The schools are named in numbers, as if we do not want them.
“So, I asked myself if we are building suburbs that are so ugly that we do not want our names associated with them?”
