BINDURA Mayor Jacob Gwature, who spent the weekend at Harare Remand Prison after being nabbed for fraud, is expected back in court today to file his bail bid.
Gwature and his accomplice, Jonathan Kapasvi, appeared before magistrate Sandra Mupindu over the weekend.
The complainant is Kitchen Table Charities Trust based in United Kingdom, which is being represented by Misheck Mambo.
Mambo is employed at Hope for Kids Zimbabwe, which is affiliated to Kitchen Charities Trust.
The court heard that in January 2021, Kapasvi and Gwature connived to rob the organisation.
The duo allegedly misrepresented to Kitchen Table Charities that they were running a Non-Governmental Organisation called ‘Pamhodzi Rainbow Network,’ whose business was centred on humanitarian assistance.
They misrepresented that they wanted to drill a borehole and install a solar system to power the borehole at Stand 1305 in Budiriro 1, Harare.
Convinced, Kitchen Table Charities gave the duo 5 000 British pounds, which was equivalent to US$6970, through Inward Telex payment.
The money went into Pamhodzi Rainbow Network’s bank account.
Kitchen Table Charities later made a follow up to check progress on the project and found out that the borehole was not sunk.
The matter was reported to the police leading to the duo’s arrest.
