THE Harare water situation is improving as council deals with the challenge of water treatment chemicals and focuses on improving pumping capacity through filters and clarifiers, according to mayor Ian Makone.
However, the city also faces significant debts amounting to tens of billions of dollars from ratepayers, including the government, and if this is settled, service delivery will improve.
He said if clarifiers and filters are fixed, council would be able to reach 400 megalitres capacity.
As of October 11, the south-western suburbs of Kuwadzana, Mufakose, Crowborough and Glaudina were accessing water, although Marimba Park was not yet receiving it due to demand management schedules.
“The southern suburbs, including Mbare, Ardbennie, Prospect and Airport, are accessing water.
“North-western suburbs like Tynwald, Bloomingdale and Mabelreign are not receiving water. The northern suburbs are also not receiving water. However, pumping to Hatcliffe was resumed this morning.
“Mabvuku/Tafara, Greendale, Epworth, Ventersburg and surroundings received water between yesterday morning and today in the afternoon as per demand management schedule,” said Makone.
