Zimpapers Digital and Publishing Division advertising and marketing manager Mrs Phillipa Gomo was on Friday honoured with the Marketing Champion Leadership accolade by the Marketers Association of Zimbabwe at the National Exceptional Marketing Awards Ceremony.
With over 43 years of experience in marketing, Mrs Gomo began her career in the sales department at Zimpapers.
A significant milestone in her career came in July 2011 when she was recognised as a marketing practitioner.
In an interview, Mrs Gomo expressed gratitude and joy.
“I would like to thank God Almighty, my family and friends, my employers and colleagues, fellow marketers, and all our customers who have supported me throughout my 43 years in the media industry,” she said.
As one of the pioneers who joined MAZ at its formation in 2007, Mrs Gomo acknowledged the organisation’s founder, Mr Gillian Rusike.
“Thank you, Mr Rusike, for your vision of putting the missing chair in the boardroom; it was a dream that has come true.”
Reflecting on her extensive marketing career, Mrs Gomo highlighted the encouragement she received from those around her.
“The belief that others had in me inspired me to persevere,” she noted.
She has participated in numerous conventions, conferences, and team-building events throughout her career, with memorable experiences in South Africa, Kariba, Nyanga and Victoria Falls.
“At Victoria Falls, I won a complimentary ticket for two from Air Zimbabwe for a holiday, fully paid for,” she shared.
Mrs Gomo emphasised the value of collaboration and learning in her professional journey.
“In these conferences, I engaged with both seasoned and young marketers brimming with energy and brilliant ideas.
“Each time I returned from a convention, I felt rejuvenated and ready to apply the new ideas and selling techniques I had learned.”
She concluded by thanking Zimpapers’ clients for their unwavering support.
