MAZ signs MOU with SRC

Curtworth Masango and Ashley Mujoma

MARKETERS Association of Zimbabwe (MAZ) executive secretary, Gillian Rusike, said they are going to focus on training and equipping sports administrators.

Rusike revealed this at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding yesterday between MAZ and the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC). The MOU will see the establishment and promotion of specific training courses in sports marketing, among other areas of cooperation.

“We are going to focus on training or equipping sports administrators on marketing and implementation.

“MAZ is not going to implement, but it is the people that are running different sports or programmes who are going to implement the things that we would have assisted in teaching,” said Rusike.

“We are also going to provide voluntary professionals to work with different sporting organisations. So, there is a need for strategic development, training and discussion on how we can grow and change the trajectory of sport in our country on a commercial path.”

Rusike said they won’t be giving free service.

“We are going to run a lot of workshops, and conversations between the business fraternity and sport so that we close those gaps to make sure that money flows into sports. Sport is a multimillion-dollar business.

“For example, in South Africa, billions of rand have been channelled into sport. “We are looking at corporates because they are the ones that we are targeting for channelling money to sport.”
