Businessman and Hilthru Enterprises director Mr Benjamin Mazarire is the Masvingo Megafest 2018 Businessman of the Year after scooping the top prize during an inaugural awards ceremony held at the Great Zimbabwe Hotel last Friday.
Mr Mazarire, a retired army officer, who is into mining, general dealership, farming, quarry production and gold mining shrugged of stiff competition from Mr Andrew Chekani of N. Richard Group who was second.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Mazarire thanked his family and the people of Masvingo who constituted a large fraction of his clients and dedicated the award to them.
“I am happy to win such a prestigious award. I thank my family and our clients,” said Mr Mazarire.
“I never thought our work has been observed by many, especially Megafest.
“I started this company using my pension after retiring from the army, I see the hand of God. My company now employs more than 200 people and I have 15 branches across Masvingo and beyond,” said Mr Mazarire.
TM Holdings director, Dr Tinashe Manzungu who was guest of honour at the Awards ceremony congratulated the winners.
“I would want to congratulate Mr Mazarire for being the best Megafest businessman in Masvingo. It shows, his enterprises are doing well and we expect to have more companies performing well for the betterment of our economy,” said Dr Manzungu.
A land developer, Mr Stanley Kondongwe of Jadecon Constructions walked away with the Industrialist of the Year award after outsmarting Mr Nick Manjoro of Multi-Design.
Bikita Rural District Council chief executive, Mr Peter Chibi was nominated as the best chief executive while his counterpart at Masvingo Rural District Council, Mr Martin Mubviro was second runner up in the Public Sector of the year award category.
In the same category, Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) was the first runner up in public sector award which was won by the Zimbabwe National Water Authority.
The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority was first runner up in the Pacesetters of the year category while its training institution, Mushandike Wildlife Training College scooped the Private Educational Sectors of the year award alongside South Eastern College of Chiredzi.
The top prize went to Premier Medical Services Investments while the most innovative award category was won by First Mutual Life and Kwese TV and Tile Wholesalers walking away with best customer focus award.
Mr Nkulumani Mlambo of Masvingo Mirror walked away with the Manager of the Year Award while the Female Manager of the year award went to Ms Georgina Mateta of Zimbabwe Traffic safety Council.
The young manager of the year award went to Mr Owen Munhuwamambo while Mr Edmore Mtisi of Econet was the runner up.
