MAZIBUKO SAYS PIECE JOBS PAVED THE WAY

ACTOR Sbonakaliso Mazibuko says piece jobs paved the way for him to get into the film industry.

Sbonakaliso is best known for his character on e.tv’s series Smoke&Mirrors as Sipho and has starred in shows such as Uzalo, eHostela and Durban Gen.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, the KwaMashu-born actor said he was not privileged to attend university after matric. He had to do piece jobs for a living and pursue the arts part-time.

“At a later stage I resigned from where I was working and decided to concentrate on acting. During the period I was doing my piece jobs I was motivated that one day things will work out pursuing my acting career,” he said.

“In high school I was given a task to copy one of my schoolteachers who was feared by everyone. I had to copy him and do everything he does. I did very well on this task to a point that I was approached by everyone including teachers and learners to consider acting as a career.”

Sbonakaliso has been nominated at various award ceremonies such as the American Black Film Festival and Simon Sabela Awards. “I am the man I am today because of the permanent structures that were built around me. God’s promises gave me life,” he added. — Times.
