speculation as to whether she was abandoning sunny SA for the dreary UK weather.
We, on the other hand, know that she has been on the Mama Africa Concert with Hugh Masekela, Vusi Mahlasela and Lira, crisscrossing Europe and the UK.
She will soon be back at home and her first stop is going to be at the Oude Meester Ekurhuleni Comes Alive at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg, on August 5.
Mazwai has proved her musical mettle by going solo but still remains a member of the celebrated and innovative Bongo Maffin.
Her solo career has taken off with classics like Zabalaza, Ngoma Yam, Lahlu’mlenze among great duets with luminaries like Tsepo Tshola. She features Phuthuma, another newcomer in the jazz arena. Her melodic voice will enthrall the discerning audience.
That she is already on high rotation in various radio stations, is an indication that we are looking at another star in the rise.
Opening for Mazwai is another unknown group that is likely to break into the big time after their showing at the jazz evening. Many artists have made waves after appearing on the sterling platform. Flatoe is the name that is going to be on everybody’s lips after August 5.
The night would be incomplete without the three-course sumptuous meal, a complimentary bottle of Oude Meester brandy, red and white wines. The cherry on top is Kaya FM’s DJ Hector Motau, whose truckload of humour will crack you up good for the entire evening. – Sowetan.
