In an e-mail last night, Premier Soccer League president Twine Phiri conceded and confirmed that defending champions DeMbare would indeed clash with former Cup Kings Caps United at Barbourfields Stadium next Sunday.
Monoz and FC Platinum will be at Sakubva Stadium in Mutare.
In a dramatic turn, Phiri said the draw followed the Confederation of African Football (Caf) draw format of numbering matches from first round to the final.
“The Premier Soccer League Executive Committee would like to inform all its stakeholders that the Mbada Diamonds Cup draw followed the standard Confederation of African Football (Caf) draw format of numbering matches from the first round to the final match,” wrote Phiri in his communiqué last night.
The PSL president said the format meant the semi-final matches for the Mbada Diamonds Cup 2012 shall be played as follows;
Match No. Home Team Away Team Venue Date Time
Match 13 Monoz FC vs FC Platinum Sakubva 10/11/12 1500hrs
Match 14 Dynamos vs CAPS B/F 11/11/12 1500hrs
“We take this opportunity to sincerely apologise to the sponsors, Mbada Diamonds, the participating clubs, all stakeholders and fans for the lack of clarity on the draw procedure. Mbada Diamonds and the PSL are committed to bringing football to all corners of Zimbabwe, while harnessing diamonds for the people,” said Phiri.
