Mbada’s kind gesture

DeMbare, who remain the only team to win the Mbada Diamonds Cup since its inception last year, were invited by the diamond mining concern on for a social responsibility programme, which will benefit the Mutare community in the long run.

Mbada Diamonds donated the equipment which included beds, trol­leys, bins, bin trolleys and wheelchairs.
The company’s managing director Tendai Kadyamusuma said Mbada Dia­monds is in the process of diversifying its generosity to other sectors of the society and hinted that health delivery will be among its priorities in the com­ing year.

He said they had decided to give the Manicaland community the privilege by starting at home as they move a gear up to plough back to the communities as part of the benefits to the diamonds mined in the area.
“When we mine diamonds we have the people of Manicaland in our hearts. This donation is just the beginning of a long journey because we hope to include health issues into other pro­grammes that we have been doing all along,” said Kadyamusuma.

The province’s Medical Superintend Dr Mubashar Ijaz said the donation by Mbada had come at the right time and would go a long way in alleviating the serious problems facing the institution.
Mutare General hospital has been in existence for over 80 years and most of its equipment dates back to the pre-colonial era.
The hospital has also been finding it difficult to cope with the growing popu­lation as it had originally been designed to cater for a smaller number.

“Before this day, the sight of relatives carrying their adult patients on their backs as they moved around the hospi­tal was very common. In addition, our staff dreaded the rainy season as it meant soaking in the rain each time they visited the laundry to deliver or to collect linen when it is raining.
“Furthermore, because of the short­age of bins, separation of waste and proper disposal was a challenge. Today we are all gathered here to witness the handover of a covered walkway, wheel­chairs, patient and bin trolleys as well as bins.

This marks the end of the nightmare just outlined as it is the answer to the above problems,” said Ijaz.
Mbada Diamonds are involved in a number of projects in the Manicaland area which include road refurbishment in Bocha, water and sanitation, food assistance and accommodation for the relocated families at ARDA Transaau.

They toured the hospital wards with the Dynamos players and the provincial administrator Fungai Mbetsa who stood in on behalf of the governor Chris Mushohwe.
The patients also had an opportunity to mix and speak with Dynamos players who are the reigning Mbada Diamonds Cup kings.

Dynamos midfielder Murape Murape revealed his compassionate side after the team’s tour of the hospital wards where they met patients and dis­tributed “get-well soon” cards to the patients.
The veteran midfielder said he was touched by the plight of some patients and applauded Mbada Diamonds for their donation. Mbada delivered a con­signment that included wheelchairs, beds, bins, trolleys and other goodies as part of their social responsibility pro­gramme.

“What Mbada have done is very important to the local community. It’s good because health delivery is an area that people tend to forget. Even the patients appreciate that there are some people who still think about them and I want to thank Mbada Diamonds for this donation.

“I believe it will go a long way to help the patients because I have seen many wheelchairs, beds, and other equipment that can be used here,” said Murape.
