The Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Jagan Chapagain paid a courtesy call on President Mnangagwa at State House in Harare today.
Speaking to the media after his closed-door meeting with the President, Secretary General Chapagain said he is in the country to familiarise with Red Cross operations in Zimbabwe.
He said he had also expressed gratitude for President Mnangagwa’s support as a patron of Red Cross in Zimbabwe.
“I am visiting mainly to understand the work being done by ZimbabweRed Cross.
We have been partnering with Zimbabwe Red Cross on a number of important humanitarian activities in this country, as well as disaster preparedness, disaster response, support to migrant population and health crises. We were involved in responding to Cyclone Idai and Covid-19, so very important humanitarian work is happening in Zimbabwe,” said the Red Cross Secretary General.
