A 51-year-old Beitbridge woman has been sentenced to do 350 hours of community service after she was found in possession of 45kg of mbanje.Sithembile Ngwenya of House number 492 Dulibadzimu and employed as a general hand at Beitbridge Town Council was convicted on her own plea of guilt to contravening a section of the Dangerous Drugs Act when she appeared before magistrate Mr Innocent Bepura.
In the event she fails to perform the community service at St Mary’s High School she risks imprisonment for 12 months.
Prosecutor Jabulani Mberesi said on February 4, a team of detectives were patrolling around Mashakada Business Centre around 8pm when they came across Macleod Shekede who was smoking mbanje.
They arrested him and he paid an admission of guilt fine of $20. He said during interrogation, Shekede revealed that he had bought the mbanje from Ngwenya.
The detectives swooped on her house where they recovered several twists of the drug which were hidden in a dust bin and a sack. He said Ngwenya was arrested and the marijuana with a street value of $2,000 was recovered.
