FOR the fourth year in a row, Mbare Academy Under-16 team got the better of Kutama as they powered to a 21-0 win on day two of the Dairibord Schools Rugby Festival at Prince Edward School yesterday.

Mbare’s first try came from Arezhu Nyazuwa and Victor Matarisei added the bonus points for a 7-0 lead.

Nyazuwa and Nyasha Fusire added further tries for Mbare Academy, whose assistant coach, Milton Rankeni, was happy with his team’s performance.

“It was good we won but we could have scored more tries so, hopefully, will score more in our remaining games,” said Rankeni.

“In our next game, we are going to play Allan Wilson and any of the two teams stand a chance of winning the game.”

In another Under-16 match, St George’s thumped Watershed 43-7.

Christopher Duffield scored the first try for the Saints in the fifth minute while Mudiwa Makanza, Tendekai Makoni, Kuzivaishe Zvandanzwa and Prince Kumira added the other tries.

St George’s College Under-16 team manager, John McCarthy, feels his boys have a lot to work on despite their win.

“We have a lot to improve on but it was not a bad game, it was good experience, this was the boys’ first fixture for this festival,’ said McCarthy.

“Our next match we are going to play Prince Edward.

“Usually Prince Edward, Falcon, St John’s and Peterhouse always give us competition and playing Prince Edward will be tough.”

Eaglesvale defeated St John’s Emerald Hill 27-5.
