MBERENGWA Rural District Council (RDC) is targeting to construct two state-of-the-art health facilities in two wards before the end of the first quarter.
The initiative is driven by the need to bring health care services to villagers’ steps in line with Vision 2030 and the Government’s drive of leaving no one and no place behind.
In an interview yesterday, Mberengwa RDC chief executive officer, Mr Thompson Maeresera, said the devolution projects, funded by the Government, focus on improving basic infrastructure like roads, water access, and health/education facilities.
“As Mberengwa RDC, we are targeting two state-of-the-art clinics in the first quarter of the year. These health facilities will be in Bayayi Ward 20 and Chebvute in Ward 14,” he said.
Mr Maeresera commended the Second Republic for the devolution funds, which he said have been credited for people-centred projects completed over the years.
“Recent investments include purchasing a borehole rig and grader for road rehabilitation and clean water, resuscitation of irrigation schemes for food security, as the local authority uses these funds for community-requested projects like clinics, markets, and better transport links to improve the livelihoods of the people of Mberengwa,” he said.
Mr Maeresera said the Mataga community is the recent beneficiary of the devolution funds following the installation of a piped water scheme in the area.
The Mataga piped water scheme is benefitting over 5 000 households in the area.
Mberengwa Rural District Council chairperson, Councillor Garisikai Moyo, said they were looking forward to having at least one functional piped water scheme with a coverage of at least five kilometres each per ward.
Mberengwa has 37 Wards.
The Government has set a target to increase access to clean water from 77,3 percent to at least 90 percent of the country’s population by next year.
