ZIMBABWE Housing Projects has distributed 2,430 residential stands to the Mberengwa community as it seeks to transform Mberengwa Business Centre into a town. The housing project has high, medium and low density stands. Speaking on the sidelines of the commemoration of the Midlands province’s United Nations’ World Habitat Day in Izaya Park Suburb in Zvishavane, ZHP regional manager Jameson Museke said his organisation seeks to provide the people of Mberengwa with decent, modern houses.

“We’ve a massive housing scheme in Mberengwa and stands are very much affordable. The lowest stand is going for $7 per square metre while the most expensive costs $20 per square metre. The whole idea behind this project is to turn Mberengwa into a town in the near future. Judging by the speed at which we’re moving, the goal of upgrading Mberengwa into a town can be achieved,” said Museke.

He said about 500 houses were almost complete.
Museke said ZPH has running housing projects in six districts in the province and to date they have allocated 7,480 residential stands.
He said ZPH offers beneficiaries payment plans to allow every person to own a house.

“Beneficiaries can pay in installments. This makes our residential stands affordable to everyone,” said Museke.
He said the lowest installment was pegged at $50 and those who manage to pay half the total amount of the stand are allowed to begin construction.

“They’ll pay the other half later while constructing their house. This shows our commitment to provide decent accommodation to Zimbabweans,” said Museke.
ZPH has developed and serviced stands in the city of Kwekwe where they are selling one acre plots to beneficiaries.
