MBIZO High School in Kwekwe has benefitted from a state-of-the-art classroom block, Information Communication Technology facilities, and a new school bus, all aimed at improving access to quality education and enhancing the learning environment.
Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Owen Ncube, commissioned the new infrastructure and digital learning facilities at Mbizo High School in Kwekwe as part of the Government’s drive to modernise Zimbabwe’s education system and equip learners with skills for the future.
The new classroom blocks are expected to ease congestion, while the interactive smart boards are introducing technology-driven teaching and learning. The school bus will improve mobility for school activities.
Addressing teachers, parents, pupils and community members during the commissioning programme on Friday, Minister Ncube said the investment forms part of a broader strategy to develop modern, technology-driven learning institutions capable of producing the skilled human capital required to support industrialisation and achieve Vision 2030.
He commended the school for putting in place mechanisms and systems that provide a conducive environment for pupils to improve their education.
“I feel greatly honoured to address you on this momentous occasion of the commissioning of Mbizo High School’s US$230 000 (2×2) classroom blocks, US$150 000 school bus and the handover of 13 Interactive Smart Boards valued at US$46 000 here in Kwekwe, and the prize-giving day,” he said.
Minister Ncube said the event aligns seamlessly with the Second Republic’s commitment, under the visionary and astute leadership of President Mnangagwa, towards the provision of Heritage-Based Education 5.0, infrastructure development, innovation, modernisation and industrialisation, as entrenched through the NDS2 Pillar on Science, Technology, Digital Innovation and Human Capital Development.
Guided by this development trajectory, the Minister applauded the Second Republic for developing rural model schools such as Neta Secondary School in Mberengwa and Budiriro Primary School in Gokwe South.
“The Second Republic has also connected power to schools, and I am reliably informed that REF targets the provision of power to all schools and other public institutions before the end of 2026,” he said.
Minister Ncube said Government was also promoting private sector-led rehabilitation of schools, as demonstrated by sustainable Corporate Social Investment programmes implemented by Unki Mine and Cheng-Xi Chengeta Mining Company in Shurugwi, Dinson Iron and Steel Company in Mvuma, Canterbury Pvt Ltd and Mimosa Mine.
“I commend Mbizo High School, through its dedicated and hardworking SDC and parents, for complementing the Second Republic’s efforts towards improving the teaching and learning environment in pursuit of quality, inclusive and equitable education, as demonstrated by the intensive mobilisation of its own resources towards the construction of classroom blocks, procurement of a school bus and 13 Interactive Smart Boards,” he said.
Minister Ncube urged teachers to improve and sustain high pass rates, as reflected by the highly commendable 96.4 percent A-Level pass rate for 2025 at Mbizo High School.
At the same time, he said parents should uphold their obligation to pay fees to enable maintenance, expansion and sustainable development programmes and projects in schools.
Ncube implored learners to focus on their studies and desist from drug and substance abuse, which he attributed to early marriages, bullying, cybercrime and school dropouts.
Meanwhile, Minister Ncube advised that this year’s Heroes Day celebrations will be held at the Provincial Heroes Acre, and Defence Forces Day will be celebrated at Chahwanda Stadium in Kwekwe, in line with the Second
Republic’s thrust to decentralise state functions and events.
Mbizo legislator Cde Vongaishe Mupereri said the new facilities would enhance the school’s academic record.
“The school consistently delivers strong results, and this investment will support the President’s vision to improve education,” he said.
