ZNSSA leader Eddie “Mboma” Nyatanga said they will get a clearer picture this weekend with a number of companies expected to respond to their pleas for help.
“We have been in touch with a number of companies, including Mbada Diamonds and ZMDC and we hope to get a clear picture this weekend,” said Nyatanga.
“This is a national issue and we need our fans to be in Cape Verde to support the boys because, when Zifa gave us a facility to go to Liberia, the support was fantastic and the boys responded well.
“We didn’t send anyone to Mali and the boys felt isolated and were beaten 0-1 in that match. The Cape Verde game is big and we believe that if we win we will qualify and we have a good team that can do it as long as they can get support from their fans.”
Nyatanga said they received sponsorship for tracksuits and a few tickets, likely to be offered to two drummers within the ZNSSA structures, for the Cape Verde trip.
“A Harare couple, Mr and Mrs Awudi, who run a sports bar called Ligi in Mabelreign, responded to our call for help and they funded the acquisition of tracksuits that will be branded with the ZNSSA label,” said Nyatanga.
“Now, if a couple can put aside thousands of dollars for such a worthy cause, we believe that our companies should also put more and we can have our fans in Cape Verde.
“Our initial aim was to charter a plane but the cost of doing that is very prohibitive and that is why we are trying to get fans on commercial flights. We believe something big could break out this weekend and we will have a good story for our fans come next week.”
