HWANGE striker Gift Mbweti shot to the top of the goal-scoring charts when he fired a brace which saw his team snatch victory over Triangle in this eight-goal thriller at the Colliery yesterday.

Mbweti had scored six league goals, coming into this match, but his two strikes, a penalty in the 84th minute and another goal in the 90th minute, powered Chipangano to victory.

The visitors were down 1-3 at the break but by the 73rd minute they had levelled terms.

Triangle took the lead from the spot with Marvellous Mukumbi converting after just three minutes.

Triangle slippery winger Malvern Gaki was hacked down by Hwange defender Gerald Ndlovu and the visitors were awarded a spot-kick.

Four minutes later, veteran Hwange forward Gilbert Zulu equalised when he latched onto a cross from Mbweti and beat Triangle ‘keeper Tapiwa Chilenga.

Zulu completed his brace in the 13th minute to thrust his side into the lead.

And in the 37th minute Hwange defender Obert Moyo headed from a free-kick to make it 3-1.

After the breather the visitors introduced forward Nhamo Lameck and his runs caused havoc for the hosts.

Six minutes after the hour mark, Triangle made it 3-2 when Nhamo’s shot was turned home by Hwange defender Ndlovu in a desperate attempt to clear.

Nhamo then levelled matters in the 73rd minute when he beat Hwange goalkeeper Future Sibanda.

But Mbweti reserved his best for last with two late goals that gave his team victory.

The win ensured the coalminers completed a double over Triangle having beaten their opponents 1-0 at Gibbo.

Hwange coach Mebelo Njekwa said Triangle gave them a huge scare.

“I am happy for the win as we fully utilised our chances in the game. We conceded some soft goals and almost brought them back into the match but going forward it gives us encouragement having scored five goals,” said Njekwa.

Triangle coach David Mandigora praised his charges for the fight.

“The boys did well to fight back from 3-1 down but at the end of the day it was not our day and such is football,” said Mandigora.
