Health and Child Welfare Deputy Minister Douglas Mombeshora said on Sunday that crafting of the regulations was almost complete.
A survey in Harare early this week revealed that some of the sexual enhancement herbals that can be bought over the counter in pharmacies include Wild Horse, Blue Diamond, Femagene and Oto Chao Jimengnan.
They are also readily available on the black market.
MCAZ spokesperson Mr Richard Rukwata said they had not registered any sexual enhancement products, making it illegal for anyone to distribute them.
“The authority is also in the process of withdrawing some substances from the market that are being sold as sexual enhancement products, but were never declared as such to the authorities,” he said.
“Our enforcement unit is also assisting the police with some investigations regarding the sale of these products. The authority enjoys very good relations with ZIMRA and Port Health Authority so we are constantly collaborating to curb these practices.”
Mr Rukwata said programmes to inform and educate the public about such products were already under way.
“In the interim, the authority requires anyone and everyone who intends to sell herbal products to get written authorisation from MCAZ to do so,” said Mr Rukwata.
MCAZ is mandated by the law to register all drugs that are imported.
