Failure to pay for water supplied by Harare Municipality has affected supplies to residents.
Residents have also resorted to scrounging for water in wells, streams and at the few boreholes dotted around the town.
Women and children formed the majority of the people queuing for the limited sources of water.
Mr Stanley Nyakuwanikwa of Unit O said they had not accessed tap water for more than a year.
“Our taps are dry. We have to rely on boreholes.
“We are not even sure whether this borehole water meets the required standards,” he said.
He said each time there was no electricity, residents did not access water as pumping stopped.
Ms Chipo Samson said families had to use buckets to flush their toilets.
Tafadzwa Munukwa, a high school student, said the situation was worse during school days.
Eighty-five-year-old Gogo Alice Musandu was among a group of women queuing for water at a borehole.
“I am old. I cannot carry the big buckets.
“I have to use these small containers,”she said.
“Maybe it is time Government intervenes and gives a directive on how we should survive,” she said.
