Mudzumwe (46), of the MDC formation led by Professor Arthur Mutambara, is the CWUZ secretary general and is jointly charged with his deputy John Chifamba (56) and a messenger Tafirenyika Mushonga (56) in the theft case.
Mudzumwe and Chifamba were re-arrested on Friday after they denied auditors entry into the workers’ union premises.
They appeared before Ms Anita Tshuma yesterday and the State led by Mr Tungamirai Chakurira made an application for revocation of bail and their committal to prison.
CWUZ president, Mr Cuthbert Chikwekwete testified against the two and told the court that he went with auditors to CWUZ’s premises and the security guard at the premises denied them entry.
Mr Chikwekwete said the guard told them he was working under Chifamba’s instructions not to allow the auditors in.
He said Mudzumwe was peeping through the window laughing at them while they were being harassed by the guard.
Mudzumwe and Chifamba through their lawyer Mr Tayengwa Taimu denied the allegations, arguing that there was bad blood between them and Chikwekwete.
They said that they were not even aware of the audit since Chikwekwete had not advised them.
Magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma remanded Mudzumwe and Chifamba out of custody to today for continuation of inquiry.
The pair is on US$100 bail and as part of their bail conditions they were ordered not to interfere with witnesses or evidence and to reside at their given addresses.
It is alleged during the period from October 2011 to November 2012, Mudzumwe connived with his accomplices and stole money from the union’s CBZ bank account.
The court heard that Mudzumwe is one of the signatories to the account. It is alleged that Mudzumwe and the financial director, Felistas Hwazulu who is still at large, withdrew cash without the authority of the union’s president and the national executive council members.
The court also heard that Chifamba ordered regional offices from Bulawayo, Chinhoyi, and Masvingo to deposit the union’s funds into Mushonga’s personal account.
They would withdraw the money and share it.
