A 74-year-old Chitungwiza MDC-T member who allegedly sodomised an 11-year-old boy after dragging him into his house, yesterday appeared in court.

The man is represented by Mr Albert Nyikadzino of Nyikadzino, Simango and Associates.

Mr Nyikadzino yesterday applied for the postponement of the case after receiving instruction from his client.

“Your Worship, I intent to make an application for postponement of the matter since I have to go through the record of proceedings. I am now representing the accused and I have to take instruction from him.

“If the State may also recall the complainant to testify,” said Mr Nyikadzino.

This was after the man had denied aggravated indecent assault charges before Chitungwiza regional magistrate Ms Estere Chivasa.

In his defence, when the trial commenced he cited that he did not even know the complainant and never saw him on the day in question.

This led Ms Chivasa to remand him in custody to Monday.

The prosecutor Mr Loveti Muringwa told the court that the incident occurred on January 10 when the boy went to play with his friends near the man’s house.

It is alleged that the man came and grabbed the boy’s hand and dragged him inside his house.

Further allegations are that he undressed and sexually abused the minor ordering him to remain silent.

After the act, the old man escorted the boy out of his house and the boy later revealed the offence to his grandmother.

The matter was reported to the police, leading to the man’s arrest.
