MDC-T audit unearthes parallel structures

after a recent audit of Bulawayo province unearthed the existence of parallel structures in some districts.

According to party insiders, the audit hit a brick wall following the discovery of two structures in some districts making it difficult to continue with the exercise. “The audit team failed to conduct the exercise in Luveve after they found two structures on the ground,” said a party insider.

He said the audit team had no mandate to choose a legitimate structure in the event they were two or more.

“There were two structures found in Bulawayo East and Makokoba and the audit team will have to report back to the provincial and national executives before the issue is resolved,” said a source.

Contacted for comment, MDC-T Bulawayo provincial spokesperson Mr Mandlenkosi Sibanda confirmed that a 12-member audit team from Harare was in the city as from 21 January.

“The results of the audit cannot be discussed as of yet, so it will be not proper to talk about it now,” said Mr Sibanda.

“They were mainly assessing the structures and checking if the names of people on the list really exist on the ground,”said Mr Sibanda.

He said the team would also compile a party database with all the names of district structures.

Last week there was pandemonium at an MDC-T Makokoba district ward election to fill up vacancies when party members assaulted Pumula constituency Member of the House of Assembly Mr Albert Mhlanga.

In Bulawayo East constituency, Member of the House of Assembly Ms Tabitha Khumalo again allegedly assaulted Mr Mhlanga.
