Sources said Mr Mutendeudzwa was going around in his ward giving desperate job seekers some forms with Mimosa Mine and FC Platinum Club logos to fill in so that they could be placed on the employment waiting list.
The sources said Mr Mutendeudzwa has since hired a team, which was going around issuing forms to residents in the ward, where he is eyeing the councillor’s post.
“When issuing these forms, Mr Mutendeudzwa’s team is telling people that one should be an MDC-T member and vote for him if he or she is to benefit under the initiative. We are being promised jobs at the mine, but I want to believe this is only a political gimmick by Mutendeudzwa,” said one source.
The sources said what was suspicious was that the forms were only circulating in Mkoba where Mr Mutendeudzwa is eyeing the post.
“If this is genuinely for the FC Platinum supporters, why is it that the forms are not being distributed in other suburbs like Senga or Lundi? The fact that they are only being circulated in Mkoba means Mr Mutendeudzwa is pushing his political interests,” said another source.
Contacted for comment, Mr Mutendeudzwa confirmed that he was sending forms to residents.
He said the forms were meant to boost fan base for FC Platinum and had nothing to do with politics.
“The problem with people of Zimbabwe is that they want to politicise everything. We are just trying to revive soccer in Gweru and the forms I am sending out are for those who want to join the FC Platinum Gweru Chapter fan base and nothing more.
“This has nothing to do with politics and we have never promised people who wish to join us any job. We are doing this in the love of the game and nothing else,” he said.
Mr Mutendeudzwa, who confirmed eyeing Mkoba’s Ward 14, as a councillor, said the forms were being distributed in all the city’s suburbs.
“These forms are being taken to all the suburbs in Gweru and reports that they are only being circulating in Mkoba are unfounded,” he said.
