She is likely to appear in court today facing a charge of fraud.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo confirmed Khoza’s arrest last night.
“I confirm that as police we are investigating a case of fraud where Thembeni Khoza, the MDC-T councillor for Ward 12 has been arrested and is assisting police with investigations.
“However, she is out of custody and would appear in court tomorrow,” said Insp Moyo in a telephone interview.
It is understood that Khoza (55) who stays in Old Lobengula, sold House Number 8373 in Pumula East in 2006.
“She sold the house to Sibusisiwe Ngwenya in 2006 for Z$6 million. Sibusisiwe bought the house on behalf of her relative Zodwa Ngwenya who was outside the country at that time,” said a source who spoke on condition of anonymity.
“All along the owners of the house were renting it until March this year when Khoza’s daughter, Anita Ncube, came from the Diaspora and evicted the tenants claiming that the house belonged to her.”
The source said Khoza’s family and the owners failed to reach a consensus during discussions to solve the dispute.
“After failing to reach an agreement Sibusisiwe reported the case to the police sometime this month. Khoza’s daughter claims that she inherited the house from her grandmother,” said the source.
