appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court on Monday facing charges of “causing disaffection in the police force”.
They appeared before magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma who remanded them to August 14 for trial on US$50 bail each.
As part of their bail conditions, Ms Tshuma ordered the suspects to reside at their given addresses and not to interfere with witnesses until the matter is finalised. According to the State, the pair resides in Tomlinson Depot and are both stationed at Harare Central Police Station.
Appearing for the State, Miss Sharon Mashavira alleges that on July 9 Munyisa phoned Sergeant Shepherd Zvarehwa Muringani who is stationed at Morris Depot in the administration department.
It is alleged Munyisa made an appointment with Sgt Muringani after advising him that it was not proper to discuss the matter over the phone. He, however, indicated that it was a matter of urgency. Munyisa and Sgt Muringani allegedly met near Morris Depot main gate on the same day at around 2pm.
Munyisa, who was driving a Nissan Elgrand, picked Sgt Muringani and they drove along Baines Avenue before parking at the intersection of 9th Street and Baines Avenue, it is alleged. The court heard that Munyisa told Sgt Muringani that he had a shady deal. It is alleged he said, “Muringani pane deal rinodimburisa musoro. Urikuona mota yandinayo iyi ndapiwa nemupurisa andituma. Parikudiwa soft copy yenominal roll yemarecruits ese akaregister kuvoter kubva May 2013 up to date.” (Muringani there is a dangerous deal .
You see this vehicle I am driving, the officer who sent me gave it to me. A soft copy of a nominal roll of all the recruits who have registered as voters from May 2013 up to date is required).
The court heard that Sgt Muringani told Munyisa that he was not willing to supply him with the information which he said was sensitive. After the conversation, it is alleged Munyisa later dropped Sgt Muringani at Fife Avenue mess.
Sgt Muringani, the court heard, informed Assistant Inspector Tevedzerai Shonhai of his meeting with Munyisa before reporting the matter to Chief Superintendent Matumbe who is in charge of administration and the training of police recruits.
Upon being interviewed by police detectives, Munyisa allegedly implicated Jaja leading to the arrest of the pair.
