MDC-T leader blasted

The beleaguered MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai has been rapped over his attempts to have Wednesday’s harmonised poll declared as null and void, with analysts saying the former Prime Minister has now reached his wits end.In an interview last night, war veteran and former Zimbabwe Union of Democrats president Cde Margaret Dongo said Mr Tsvangirai’s hypocrisy had been laid bare after he told journalists on polling day that “the historic election had been characterised by calm and peace”.

“His nullification (call) of the results is null and void. It’s a clear example of a man who has no clue of what to do next after suffering such a crushing defeat. On the day of the election he said everything was peaceful and well but he has made an about turn just as results were coming out. It is a sign of heightened hypocrisy,” she said.

Cde Dongo said Mr Tsvangirai’s statement was designed to garner sympathy from the West.
“I doubt if he even believes what he has said. It’s clear that the message was meant to capture the western audience where he is going to run to now to seek his next move. He is not a dignified leader because real leaders lose with grace and they do not play dirty,” she said.

Cde Dongo said the writing was on the wall for Mr Tsvangirai as evidenced by the party’s chaotic primary elections that saw hordes of disgruntled members standing as independent candidates.

“Mr Tsvangirai should have seen that all was lost during the primary elections held by his party. There were more than 20 Parliamentary candidates who left the party and contested as independents while for councillors the number was way too high,” she said.

MDC spokesperson Mr Kurauone Chihwayi said his party would not take a “reckless position” on the elections.
“While we will not be drawn into commenting on the position that has been taken by other parties regarding the elections, we want to assure our supporters and all Zimbabweans that we will not take a reckless stance. We will issue a proper position on what the party makes of these elections soon,” he said.
