MDC-T loses logo suit

The case was among 22 others before the Electoral Court that were filed as appeals related to the sitting of the Nomination Court last week, with the MDC-T dominating the list.
The Electoral Court had thrown out at least five of the cases, including the logo dispute, by yesterday.

In the logo case, Tedius Chimombe who is contesting for the House of Assembly seat in Gweru Central together with five other local authority candidates registered at the nomination court as independent candidates using the logo that MDC-T claims is a duplication of its own.

The six, according to the court papers, include suspended and fired members.
According to the papers, the logo has an open palm like that being used by the MDC-T and it only differs where the candidates substitute Mr Tsvangirai’s face with their own. The palm is positioned in a slanted manner, creating a slight difference with that being used by the MDC-T which is upright.

Among the pending cases at the Electoral Court is the matter in which MDC-T is seeking the de-registration of 11 other party members accused of forging signatures of party officials and hoodwinking the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission into accepting them as MDC-T candidates.
