MDC-T, MDC members defect

Testifying before a large gathering, Mr Vundla said he has lost hope with the MDC-T formations.

“I have resigned from the MDC-T and I am joining Zanu-PF. The MDC formations have lost direction and have no way forward. They are now stagnant parties that are there to confuse people,” said the 39-year-old Mr Vundla, drawing applause from the crowd.

“I was in charge of mobilising supporters in South Africa before I came home to become the chairman in this district. In all these years the MDC has failed to deliver. Factionalism and in-fighting dominates the party operations. The party split into two in 2005. Later on the MDC led by Professor Welshman Ncube also split. Now there are numerous MDC formations and that confuses the electorate.

“Since MDC came into power no development took place compared to the days when Zanu-PF was in charge. People have problems, but the MDC formations have not done anything. I have decided to go back to Zanu-PF because it has programmes meant to improve the people’s lives,”

There was jubilation as party supporters took to the stage and jostled to shake hands with Mr Vundla while others lifted him up.

Zanu-PF Matabeleland South secretary for administration Cde Christopher Masuku gave Mr Vundla a Zanu-PF T-shirt while supporters pampered him with gifts in the form of party regalia such as scarfs.

Mr Vundla said he worked hard in mobilising support for the MDC from 1999 up to 2006 before coming back home where he became the district youth chairman.

He said at that time he was in charge of training until 2010 when he was elevated to the post of the district chairman.

One of the defectors, Mrs Sikhangele Mpofu, said she was happy to join Zanu-PF because the party has assisted them with food during drought and inputs for farming.

Ms Nogety Ngwenya, who also joined with Zanu-PF, described the revolutionary party, as a unique party that fulfils its promises.

Mrs Abelina Ndlovu said she joined Zanu-PF and vowed to vote for it because of its empowerment programmes.

In an interview after the meeting Cde Masuku said Zanu-PF was ready to welcome anyone who wanted to join the party.

He said Mr Vundla’s stance was testimony that people were now aware that Zanu-PF was the only party that has the interests of the masses at heart.

“We are the only party with clear programmes and policies. Our works are evident and we are there for progress,” he said.

Cde Ndlovu said people were disgruntled by the MDC formations and urged them to return to Zanu-PF.

Zanu-PF Matabeleland South provincial youth vice secretary Cde Bolsheviks Ndlovu said MDC legislators have failed to develop their communities since they came into power.
