SOME aspiring MDC-T candidates are baffled by their party’s failure to hold primary elections, let alone, announce winning candidates in areas where voting took place in Manicaland over the weekend.
The opposition party is battling to stop the imposition of candidates, which has created rifts in its rank and file.
MDC-T Manicaland provincial chairman Mr David Chimhini admitted that “all was not well” within his party as voting did not take place in most areas.
He said there was no Electoral College or even structures, which were in place to monitor the voting process.
“The fact that we are not using our own structures for the electorate we ended up having Zanu-PF people coming in to vote and we have evidence to that effect,” he said.
Asked how they were going to sort out the mess and resolve the stalemate, Mr Chimhini said: “All election processes are done by the national office and as a province we only facilitate in terms of coordination, but everything is done by the national office.”
Mr Chimhini also took the opportunity to clarify issues surrounding the Chikanga-Dangamvura constituency where Mr Prosper Mutseyami is said to have won during the primary elections.
“Voting in Chikanga-Dangamvura is not yet over.
“The statements being peddled to the effect that Prosper Mutseyami won are misleading.
“No election has been done there,” he said.
Mr Chimhini said no voting took place in Buhera South, Chikanga-Dangamvura, Mutare Central and Makoni West.
He also said there was need for more clarification in Mutare Central where Mr Innocent Gonese is the sitting MP.
