MDC-T senior official axes wife’s lover before committing suicide

on a tree.
Cleophas Madariro (35) of Mushawasha small-scale farming area, who was the MDC-T district organising secretary for Masvingo Central district, allegedly killed Charles Matavada (34) after he found him being intimate with Sarah Ruwode (28), his second wife.

Madariro then allegedly hanged himself on a tree near his homestead.
Matavada sustained a fractured skull and died instantly.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Peter Zhanero yesterday said the bodies of Madariro and Matavada were taken to Morgenster Mission Hospital for post-mortem.

Inspector Zhanero said on the fateful day, Madariro left his home in Mushawasha small-scale farming area  and visited his second wife, Ruwode, who worked as a bar lady at Chesvingo Business Centre in Murinye communal lands.

When he arrived at the business centre at around 1am and knocked on his second wife’s bedroom door, he  was answered by a male voice.

He then demanded to know what the person with the male voice was doing with his wife before he proceeded to force entry into the room.

Madariro allegedly gained entry into the room through the window as the door was locked from inside.
He allegedly found Matavada busy trying to put on his pants while his wife was in the nude.
Ruwode managed to unlock the door and bolted out  naked.

This prompted Matavada, who was wearing pants only,  to also flee.
However, Madariro followed in hot pursuit and managed to catch up with him about 30 metres away from the house.

He allegedly then struck him once on the head with an axe he was carrying, killing him instantly.
Madariro then returned to his home in Mushawasha where he used a rope to hang himself on a tree near his cattle pen.
His body was discovered after sun rise by police from Muchakata where Ruwode had filed a report.
