Chibi, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of inciting public violence, was remanded to today to allow the complainant, Mr Richard Shava, who was stabbed on the thumb, to obtain a medical report.
For the State, Mr William Man’ombe told the court that on Saturday afternoon, MDC-T members held an election for a new district executive at Kubatana Hall.
Mr Man’ombe said during the elections, Chibi who was vying for the secretary’s post clashed with his rival, Mr Shava who was also eyeing the same post.
He said it was during the clash between the two candidates that violence broke out at the election venue.
The court heard that Chibi later drew out a screwdriver and used it to stab Mr Shava once on the thumb.
Mr Man’ombe said the elections were later abandoned after police moved in to restore order following the skirmishes.
He said police who attended the scene then arrested Chibi.
