Six of them were granted bail at the High Court while one is still in custody.
They denied assault charges before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini who remanded them to May 14 for trial continuation.
Fortune Bonde (28) and his brother Terence (25) of 4071 Unit D are jointly charged with five others, Farai Madotsa (32), Tafadzwa Chitenhewere (22), Tongai Manyika (35), Kudakwashe Chinheya (22) and Tapiwa Madzunga (35).
In their defence outline, they are denying involvement in the alleged assault.
Prosecutor Mr Lovet Muringwa told the court that on April 14, at around 10am, the gang attacked Mazhindu accusing him of wearing his party’s regalia to threaten them.
Mazhindu had visited Terence to give him money for medical bills after hitting him with his vehicle.
The gang reportedly took turns to assault Mazhindu and threatened to stab him before spraying him in the face with an unknown substance. Mazhindu lost consciousness and they took off his t-shirt and the beret and concealed them.
They later took him to Zengeza police station where they lied that he was on the wanted list for contravening the Road Traffic Act.
