Mechanic in court for swindling client

Court Reporter
A Bulawayo mechanic, Job Munemo has appeared in court on allegations of fraud and theft after he swindled a client.
Job Munemo (52) who is the director of Automation Technology situated at the corner of George Silundika and 4th Avenue appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mrs Gladmore Mushove on Wednesday.
Munemo appeared representing his company for both fraud and theft charges and also in his individual capacity for both charges.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

His lawyer, Mr Norman Mangena of Coghlan and Welsh Legal Practitioners applied for discharge at the close of the State’s case after the State had led evidence from three witnesses.

The magistrate would make her ruling on the application for discharge on 9 July.
Munemo was once brought to court early this year for the offences but further remand was later denied after witnesses failed to attend court.
It was re-set down for hearing following fresh allegations by the complainant, Mr Blazio Madyira Chaka, the director of Sunset Funeral Services.

It is alleged that Mr Chaka bought a vehicle from Mr Greenfield Nyoni for $28 000 in September last year and took it to Automation Technology because it had problems with electric injectors.

The court was told that Mr Chaka gave Munemo $3 238 for him to buy the injectors from South Africa.
Allegations are that Munemo did not buy new injectors but fitted the vehicle with old ones which were not working, thereby defrauding his client of $3 238.

Mr Nyoni, who suspected that his vehicle had been tampered with, took it for testing at another garage in the city centre where it emerged that the injectors were not working.

On the count of theft, the State led by Mr Shepherd Nhamburo would seek to prove that when Mr Chaka collected his vehicle, he also found that the steering had been tampered with while the left rear view mirror, panel glass, bonnet shield, dust cover, battery holder, one cylinder bolt, two front bumper levers and engine bolts were missing.

Mr Chaka allegedly asked about the missing parts from Munemo but he failed to account for them.
A report was made to the police leading to Munemo’s arrest.

The total cost of the missing parts was $2 770 and nothing was recovered.
