THE deejaying field has welcomed a new entrant who is eager to break boundaries — from his hometown of Plumtree to becoming one of the most sought after wheel spinners in Bulawayo, the City of Kings and Queens.
Born koTitji, Malcolm Panashe Dave — known professionally as DJ Dave — is a 23 year old driven by a passion to unite communities through music.
In recent months, DJ Dave has been gaining attention after securing sets at some of Bulawayo’s top leisure spots, including Cricket in Emakhandeni and Ko Samuriwo in Luveve, although he remains relatively unknown to many.
Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub caught up with the youthful artiste, who shared his life journey and how he embraced music as a profession.
“I was born in Plumtree where I did part of my primary level at Allan Redfern before moving to Bulawayo where l completed my primary level at Mhali before going to Sikhulile High School. I’m in to deejaying, which is more of mixing with different genres. I was inspired by DJ Mzoe, who is now my boss under Fudu Media.
“The inspiration behind my work is crafting beats that touch hearts and move feet (getting people to vibe and dance),” said DJ Dave.
He said he has managed to carve a name for himself by performing at nightspots, school functions, weddings and night parties.
“The most challenging part of my music journey so far has been trying to find my unique sound and to keep the fire burning when the industry gets tough. I want to go to the next level and also at the same time want to compose my own music.
“My dream is to collaborate with DJs like Oskido and Black Coffee because these are the big wigs of our industry. This year, I plan to have more shows; more bookings even outside the country and expand my sound beyond borders, score international bookings, and bring Zimbabwean vibes to the global stage,” said DJ Dave.
