AT a time when a number of young athletes are yet to realise the value of juggling sports and academics, rising Highlanders player Proud Mpofu has thought otherwise.

The 17 year old Bosso developmental side’s  left full back goes to Sizane High School where he is doing his Advanced Level studies.

He is studying Biology, Geography and Animal Science and he is greatly looking forward to inspiring other youngsters to appreciate that football and school can be balanced.

“I play football and I learn, I do not miss training and I do not miss school. It is all about priorities. I am happy for myself that I realised the importance of education at a young age. Therefore, I will pursue my studies to the end. I hope this will inspire other guys,” said Mpofu.

The skillful left footed player draws his inspiration from former Real Madrid star Marcelo Vieira da Silva Júnio.

Mpofu played a huge role in helping Highlanders Under 17 side to finish as first runners up in the Bulawayo junior league whose championship was clinched by Biya And Friends Academy.

Mpofu played 29 matches in the process scoring four and providing 18 assists.

He will not be playing junior league football next season, but Mpofu says he is ready to showcase his talent to everyone.

“Everything has its time, I think next season my time starts, I would now be playing with or against much older guys. It can never be easy but I know that I will enjoy it because I believe in myself.  I actually cannot wait for that opportunity,” said Mpofu.

He is not the only player in Bosso’s youth ranks that is juggling football and books.  Bosso90’s Mayibongwe Ndlovu is also an Advanced Level student at Mpopoma High School and he is the deputy head boy at the academic institution that has continued to produce good athletes.
