Memory Nkwe leaves Skyz Metro FM

MEMORY Nkwe, the newsreader and presenter at Skyz Metro FM and one of its founding employees has left the radio station to join Classic 263.

Boss Lady, as she was fondly known by her listeners, called it quits on Monday and has retraced her footsteps to where it all began — Classic 263 formerly known as SFM.

“Skyz Metro FM was a good platform for me. I learnt a lot under the leadership Godwin Phiri and the rest of the team. I will treasure the time I had at the station.

“When an opportunity arose at Classic 263 I had to seize it because I wanted a platform where I could have a new experience and learn new things. Here at Classic 263 I feel at home just like I was at Skyz Metro FM because this is where I launched my broadcasting career at the time it was known as SFM,” she said.

Boss Lady revealed that her Sunday slot famously known as Memory Lane was what she would miss a lot as it had helped her establish a special bond with Skyz Metro FM listeners.

“I had connected with listeners who are based in the diaspora, people in countries such as South Africa, United Kingdom, and United States of America among a number would request a song that reminds them of particular incidents. After I played it the listener would give feedback saying it brought fond memories of when they were still in Zimbabwe, “she said.

She added: “I played all kinds of genres from Kwaito, RnB, Soul, and Reggae to Country music and due to that the show commanded a huge following since it incorporated listeners of all age groups.”

There is something about this show that touched her heart.

“During my show I would receive handwritten letters of appreciation from listeners from certain rural areas. I can proudly say it was the only show where listeners would send letters in this technological world,” she said.

Nkwe was also a newsreader, every day at 7 in the morning she delivered news with eloquence.
“I used to read news from 7am to 11:30am every day. Later on as the station grew I was moved to the 7am slot. I will miss that. I grew into a well rounded presenter because of Skyz,” she said.
