The man, charged with two counts of rape, was not formally charged when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo.

The State, led by Mr Tendai Mukariri, asked the court to remand him in custody to February 3. He was ordered to be examined by two doctors under the Mental Health Act.

Circumstances are that on at round 8am January 10, the two left their house to play at their grandmother’s disused room and were joined by their friend.

While they were playing, the man allegedly arrived at the scene and asked them to accompany him on the pretext that he wanted to play with them.

He, however, went on to rape them but the third girl survived the ordeal by hiding in the toilet.  After committing the offence, he disappeared.

The abuse came to light when the girls returned to their house and the one who escaped the abuse was asked by her mother why they were late.

After the mother threatened to beat her up she revealed that they had been held up by the man who was sexually abusing the other two.
After the shocking news, the mother reportedly went to look for the man who admitted to have been playing with the girls.

The matter was reported to the police leading to his arrest.
