Mentally challenged allegedly crushes father’s head

Chronicle Reporter
A mentally challenged man believed to be in his 40s from Bekezela area in Avoca, Insiza South allegedly killed his father by crushing his head with stones. The gruesome incident occurred on Wednesday evening at Mabuze Village in Ward Six when Melusi Nkala allegedly arrived at his parents’ homestead carrying two stones and immediately started assaulting his father who was sitting on a stool.
Police spokesperson for Matabeleland South Province Inspector Philisani Ndebele could not comment yesterday saying he had not received an official report about the alleged murder.

Villagers who spoke to Chronicle during a visit to the area on Friday said Nkala was mentally challenged and was staying at his parents’ homestead with his father and sister.

His mother and father separated.
“We were shocked when we heard that Melusi had killed his elderly father. We heard that he arrived home carrying two stones and found his sister cooking in the kitchen hut. He went to another hut to get mealie-meal and Melusi went straight to his father and struck him with the stones,” said a shocked villager.

Senior village head, Daniel Dolo Nkala  said Melusi appeared relaxed after the incident.
