MENTALLY-ILL MAN KILLS SECURITY GUARD

Innocent Muchochomi in CHEGUTU

Vendors plying their trade at Chegutu Bus Terminus received a standing ovation for apprehending a mentally-ill man who allegedly murdered a security guard at Hupenyu Shopping Complex.

The deceased guard (name supplied) was found dead, and buried under a heap of debris, at the entrance of a disused toilet behind the complex’s bar, on Thursday morning.

H-Metro arrived at the scene while Chegutu Central Police Officers were loading the metal coffin, carrying the corpse, onto a truck bound for Chegutu General District Hospital mortuary.

The Chegutu Criminal Investigation Department constables hailed the vendors.

“Gentlemen, we are grateful for the excellent work that you carried and as per the investigation procedure,” a COD officer told the vendors.

“We beg you to supply us with your names.”

James Kabesa, Tendai Mazvanhi, Tapiwa Garira, Innocent Bosha, Admire Zulu, Alexio Mvura, Andrew Banda and Elton Sango quickly reacted after someone tipped them that he had met the suspect at Lambourne Farm heading towards Harare.

“We hired a kombi and tracked him. We saw Kuda (the mentally-ill man) as he was about to cross the Mupfure River at Messina Lodge and surrounded him.

“He tried to resist arrest but we overpowered him.

“As we were wrestling with him, a cellphone belonging to the deceased guard fell from his pocket,” narrated Admire Zulu

This was only the second week that the deceased security guard had been on duty.

His predecessor resigned after his eye was badly injured at the complex while on duty.

Reports suggest he was also attacked by the same suspect.
