ZIMBABWE champions Mercenaries have beefed up their squad ahead of the Basketball Africa League Zone 6 qualifiers in Johannesburg, South Africa, next week.
The BAL Zone 6 qualifiers will run from October 16-24.
And the Mutare-based side have added four players into their fold – Neville Chikavhange from JBC, former Foxes star, Paul Kashishi, and re-signed Kudakwashe Pote, from Foxes.
Zimbabwe Under-18 player Tadisa Muratu, who has been with the team’s development side, has also been drafted into the senior team. Coach Tonderai Sengai said he was working flat out to fine-tune the team ahead of the regional qualifier which will determine the two teams to represent the zone in South Africa.
“The players have been following individualised programmes and you know how it is, to train individually, for a team sport,” said Sengai.
“But, it is what it is, we have to collect ourselves, train hard, and stay positive.
“We are not representing ourselves only, we are also representing the country.
“We have been training to try and recover lost ground and we are slowly coming up there.
“We have also recruited new members for the team and we hope we will be able to achieve our aims.
“Of course, this is not going to be a walk in the park for us, given the calibre of the opposition we are going to be facing, but we are certainly going there to compete.”
