THE Messenger of Court was an unwelcome visitor at Zifa headquarters in the capital yesterday with the association’s office property being attached yet again. A truck from the Messenger of Court arrived at Zifa House shortly before midday and took a number of chairs and desks, leaving the front office bare.
Yesterday, some of the Zifa property was set to undergo the hammer at KM Auctions after former Zifa finance officer Tafirenyika Chitsungo and three others attached equipment.
Chitsungo, Harriet Samukange, Christopher Emmanuel and Munyaradzi Siwatsi said they volunteered to retire from the association and were promised retirement packages before the end of September last year.
But Zifa have failed to honour their pledge, forcing the quartet to attach an industrial stove, electric pot, metal tables, 10 000-litre water tanks, a generator and 30 chairs that were expected to be sold through a public auction yesterday under the case HC9835/12.
Yesterday Zifa communication manager, Xolisani Gwesela, said his association was broke and said attaching the property would do little to save the situation.
“We owe several creditors but coming to attach property is not the best solution. Most of the office furniture that was attached is obsolete.
“Very little will be realised from attaching the Zifa property,” said Gwesela.
Zifa have already indicated that that they have a debt of over US$4 million.
“We want all our creditors to come so that we sit down and make a payment plan rather than involving the Messenger of Court.
“Zifa is broke but we are prepared to meet and undertake to pay what is due in an amicable solution.
“Most of the debt that is following us was accrued from the previous administrations but we have never refused to negotiate with our creditors,” said Gwesela. This week Zifa indicated that they have pulled the Warriors out of a possible trip to Ghana next month for the West Africa Football Union tournament.
A scheduled international friendly against Egypt, set for this weekend, has been cancelled.
