BANTU Rovers director Methembe “Mokse” Ndlovu has bounced back into mainstream coaching after a two-year absence from football due to his alleged involvement in the Asiagate scandal. The former Highlanders player and coach is now the head coach of his ambitious Zifa Southern Region Division One side and will be assisted by former Chicken Inn gaffer Mandla “Lulu” Mpofu.
Their focus is on getting the former premiership side back into the elite league this season, four years after they were relegated and joined the less fashionable second tier league.
“Our head coach is Mokse and is assisted by Lulu. Wonder Mpofu is the goalkeeper’s coach,” said Bantu Rovers secretary-general and spokesman Wilbert Sibanda.
He added that the trio’s mandate was clear and precise- to get Tshintsha Guluva into the premiership.
It is the taking over of the Bulawayo side’s dressing room by the shrewd Ndlovu that puts to the limelight the team’s objective this season, after coming agonisingly close in 2012 when they were pipped by gold miners, How Mine on the last day.
Bantu Rovers have been busy on the market, bringing in experienced players like Caleb Masocha, Lenience Mpofu and Mkhokheli Dube.
There are also two players from Major League Soccer in the United States of America training with the former premiership side.
Ndlovu led Bulawayo giants Highlanders into the championship podium as head coach in 2006, their last league title up to now while Mpofu won the NetOne Charity Shield with Chicken Inn last season.
“Our final 2014 list will be announced in due course, at the moment the coaches are still busy with the assessment of players,” said Sibanda.
