GIANT wholesale and retail group, Metro, yesterday opened a new giant cash and carry outlet at 20 Khami Road in Bulawayo, which has created jobs for 21 people.
This is the second branch owned by the company in the city after the hypermarket outlet in the city centre.
The company has emerged stronger from corporate rescue last year before being purchased by Sub-Sahara Capital, a long-term foreign investor in Zimbabwe and has rebranded.
After rebranding, the wholesale and retail group introduced two brands under Metro business, that is, Metro Cash and Carry and Metro Hypermarket.
In an interview yesterday after the opening of the Khami Road unit, Gain and Metro managing director, Mr Matthew Hosack, said they were extremely excited to support and be supported by Bulawayo customers.
He said Bulawayo Metro Cash and Carry has been established to efficiently and comprehensively serve the vibrant traders in Bulawayo and surrounding areas, with the most affordable goods.
“Bulawayo now has a huge Metro Hypermarket by Renkini and a Metro Cash and Carry along Khami Road,” said Mr Hosack.
“Metro Cash and Carry has a comprehensive grocery, liquor and stock feeds range with a focused and professional branch team to serve our valued customers.”
He said despite some economic challenges being faced by businesses, Metro will continue to identify opportunities to continue to serve their loyal customers.
“Despite what some may view as a challenging business environment, Metro chooses to see the opportunities that exist in this wonderful city, Bulawayo, and this has led us to invest in a new and exciting store,” said Mr Hosack.
“There are now six Metro Cash and Carry branches in Zimbabwe and 10 Metro Hypermarkets. Metro now has two branches in Matabeleland.
“The new Metro Cash and Carry along Khami Road has created job opportunities for 21 people as well as many merchandisers from our different suppliers who are stationed at the store.”
The opening of the new outlet was witnessed by several product suppliers who showcased their goods and services and had an opportunity to interact with several customers who thronged the new store looking for bargains. — @SikhulekelaniM1
