Mgcini to premiere play at art gallery

The play is set to run for two days, with the second show scheduled for the next day at the same venue.

Nyoni’s play poses the question whether having sexual intercourse with a woman is the ultimate objective of men. The hour-long show pokes fun at the seemingly stupid things men say when courting women and how women continue to fall for them.

In an interview yesterday, Nyoni said the play was about exploring how relationships have evolved between men and women through time. He said that as the title of the play suggested, the play looked at the stupid things that men sometimes told their women.

“The play will explore how males have, through generations, used the same lines on women that women ironically continually keep falling for,” he said.

Nyoni said that the play’s ultimate objective was to help women understand their male counterparts better. He said that the play would however not be one-sided but will also seek to explore some of the things that women themselves said to men.

“The play will empower women in a sense that after they have watched it they will view their male counterparts in a new light. The play will not take a single-sided view as it will also be looking at what women themselves say to their male counterparts,” he said.

He said the play will be a one-woman show with actress Mbonisi “Mbo” Mahocs holding the reins. In addition to the things that men say, the play will look at how tradition and culture have an influence on modern day relationships.

“This will be a one-woman show with Mbonisi in charge of the reins. She will be the show’s lead and sole character. The play will also look at how traditional African customs and tradition affect relationships in present day Africa,” said Nyoni.
